So you just booked your photo session, now what?
Preparing for a photo session can indeed feel intimidating and overwhelming, especially if you want everything to be just right. But not to worry! Here are some tips to ease your mind and help you make the most of your upcoming session.
Choosing your outfits:
There are several things to keep in mind when deciding what to wear to your photo session. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and confident in what you are wearing. How you are feeling will directly impact how your photos turn out.
Color:
The color of your clothing will determine what your photos look like. Bright colors will pop against certain backgrounds and neutrals are easier to coordinate among family members.
Neutrals with minimal patterning are often ideal for helping the people stand out and letting the location shine. Adding a lot of color can sometimes be distracting.
A lot of people shy away from bright colors for couples and family portraits because it can be difficult to avoid clashing. while it can be challenging to make sure brights look good together, when it’s done right, the photos turn out beautifully. If you have your heart set on bright colors, consult with your photographer to figure out a plan.
Texture:
Texture is another fun aspect of clothing to play with as it can add visual interest. Think about wether you want smooth or rough textures. Knits can make an image look more cozy, silk can show movement.
Can that be edited out?
There are often little things that can be edited out of your photos like blemishes and small spots or stains. Wrinkles however, cannot be removed in an efficient or effective way. Make sure to iron any wrinkles out of your clothing or choose a different material to wear. This will take stress off you and your photographer.
